An adverse drug event is an undesirable effect caused by a medicine.

All products (prescription medicine and OTC); cosmetic products, Dietetic products, natural health products; biologics products, and disinfectants can cause adverse drug events.

All products what gets into contact with your body or skin can cause adverse drug events

An adverse drug reaction can appear following a regular intake of a medicine or a product, according to a healthcare professional advice, or following an abuse, an overdosage, or an interaction with other medicines or products and even sometimes following an interaction with food.

We need to know about all adverse drug events you might feel or suspect.

Adverse drug events might:

- be related to a medicine

- be severe, or not

- occur with you, your child or a person you are taking care of

- be new and unexpected, regardless of their severity

- be adverse drug event occurring while switching from a medication to another

- concern a medicine or a cosmetic product

You can report an adverse drug event whether you are certain that it is caused by a medicine or no.

A patient can report an adverse drug event, but a caregiver or a parent can also do

Reporting is voluntary for the general population.

You should report an adverse drug event as soon as it appears, even if you are not sure that this adverse drug event is due to the medicines you are taking.

All medicines are tested before they reach the market but they all have risks along with the benefits you can benefit from.

All medicines are tested on healthy volunteers and on a large (but limited) number of patients and for a limited period of time but once they reach the market, some adverse drug events become evident when taken by the general population under other treatments and sometimes suffering from multiple diseases.

Reporting an adverse drug event will contribute to collection of data after a medicine is marketed, in order to:

  • recognize new adverse drug event;
  • change the frequency of an adverse drug event (for example from “rare” to “frequent”)
  • change a medicine safety information and labelling
  • regularly re-evaluate benefits, risks or effectiveness of a medicine,

Please note that reporting of adverse drug event leads sometime to the withdrawal of a medicine from the market

Please also note that reporting a, adverse drug event leads sometimes to a simple adaptation of the treatment or the dose to solve all adverse drug events you are suffering from.

Your doctor will receive a copy of your reported form.

Your reported form will be sent anonymously to the Laboratory who is marketing (selling) the medicine you are taking.

The Lebanese health authorities will also receive a copy.
